WINTER: AT LAST!
I imagine there are many members happy to have slippers on, the cool, crisp mornings and a small thought over a morning cuppa about the 2009 ski season. Well here it is! Yes now instead of glancing at the weather it is time to keep a watchful eye on any potential cold fronts lurking across the ranges and directing your attention to Adelaide’s max temp – all for the hope of some snow and when to book in at OLDINA.
Here we are at the beginning of another wonderful winter and this newsletter has a lot to report on! We hope you enjoy the updates of the lodge, valley & logistics and as always welcome all feed back & contributions.

Where are you? We need you! To keep the lodge active and encourage more upcoming members, we need to see all our members and their friends/family. Invite some friends for a weekend getaway. The lodge looks fantastic, the location perfect and meals and company superb! We hope to see you at the lodge in the 2009 season.
NEWS FLASH!!!!!!
SNOW CHAINS
Thanks to all members & associates, the issue surrounding the snow chains (Jan 09 Ed) has been cancelled from the Premier himself! Thank you
OPENING WEEKEND 2009:
IF you fancy a getaway for the June long weekend then next year I highly recommend you visit Perisher. A festival runs all weekend across the whole valley with entertainment, music & plenty to do. Free shuttle buses (or 4 WD’s or snow cats) transport guests to and fro. Feedback from 2009 festival was excellent so keep it in mind for 2010!
OLDINA SKI CLUB RENOVATIONS:
A huge thanks to Steve Rayner who has coordinated and organised the large amount of maintenance work undertaken over the last year at Oldina. He has given a lot of his time & energy to fulfil these renovations and maintenance issues.
Kate Barnes has also worked seamlessly with Steve enabling large cost savings on purchases & materials.
Without Steve managing the team and Kate supporting him the huge amount of work undertaken would never have been achieved.
The renovations that took place on two weekends after the close of the snow season involved repainting lounge, kitchen, hallways, installation of wood heater, set up of office for Michael and single room completion. The work party participants donate their time, effort and fuel costs willingly to improve the club. The new lounge, first replacement since 1980’s, looks wonderful in layout, design, colours and materials due to the efforts of the Oldina board.
The efforts involved are greatly appreciated and the end result looks fantastic!
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS:
We are in the search of all OLD/NEW photos of Oldina Ski Club and members. We need any photos to add to the website and create a gallery of the history and stories of Oldina Ski Club over the many years, including your authority to be used on the website.
PLEASE send them to P O BOX 418 Collaroy NSW 2097.

WITH THANKS:
Neil Walton has been a director over the last few years and has primarily focused on the large & tedious task of the BCA and National Park compliance issues. Neil has worked tirelessly on all these issues over the last few years which has entailed copious amounts of work, organisation & time. He in turn has saved Oldina Ski Club large amounts of money and consequently Oldina is fully compliant. Thanks Neil, your efforts are appreciated and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you!
SUB COMMITTEES:
The Oldina board has done a huge amount of work on maintenance planning, marketing (brochures and website), business planning, putting the book keeping onto MYOB.
COMPETITION:
We need for all members to put their creative thinking caps on and devise a name to head our newsletters. Something creative & fun! All submissions to suzethomas@live.com.au by 13 Oct 2009.
XC NEWS:
This winter brings some news to XC skiing in the valley: - Perisher’s franchise rights changed with the signing of their long term lease. There is now a line along Kosciusko Road and many activities can take place on the south side of the road that were limited before. In particular, instruction can now be provided by anyone with a NPWS Commercial Tour Operators’ Licence. This is something that the XC community has lobbied and is pleased to see in place.
QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK:
Thanks to all who completed the questionnaire last year. Results allow the Board to analyse the positive & negative feed back to allow for further progress & improvement in the lodge and for the future. THANK YOU!
